  REVIEW:

In Evan Almighty, God tells a man named Evan to build an ark.  Cost to produce the movie - $175 Million!  Thus, the name of the ark – USS . . . HOLY MOLEY.

In Bruce Almighty, Steve Carell played a news anchor.  Well since then, he’s been elected to congress in Evan Almighty.  His family now has to deal with his new job, a new house and a whole new Evan.  They don’t know it, but God, played by Morgan Freeman, has asked Evan to build an ark.  Evan’s not really on board with the whole idea until he realizes it’s for real when pairs of animals follow him everywhere.  But, his family just doesn’t believe him.  Evan doesn’t have much time left to get the ark built, because he’ll need it to save everyone from a flood.   To get everything done in time, he will need help.  The animals all chip in and with some divine intervention, his family finally does too.   Now they have to convince everyone else, before it’s too late.

Evan Almighty might be the most expensive comedy ever made, but that doesn’t make it the funniest.  Still, the over-the-top silly humor is good from some laughs, and Wanda Sykes’s quick sarcasm provides an occasional moment of true hilarity.  But, Evan is less comedy than Bruce Almighty, instead focusing on more family-friendly themes.  Though the plot is silly, its message is both positive and profound.  Combined with the extraordinary acting talents of Morgan Freeman and John Goodman, Evan Almighty provides much more drama than expected.  And, a few powerful scenes are made truly moving by the incredible dramatic skills of Steve Carell.  Though he’s known for his comedy, he seems to excel in the drama department, as well.  Evan Almighty therefore provides a fun and exciting experience for the entire family.
